today i was working on the front page of the paper. since it's a once a week paper, i had to add a line to the top of the mast about the chili cook off.
i hadn't even gotten a chance to get started on it when boss says, add flames to the bottom of the gazette. ok, it looks cool.
so i was going to take a picture of peppers...something like this....

and then i was going to make it transparent and put the chili cookoff info on top.
sounds cool, right? well it did in my head...but......
i get the picture in place, still manipulating its size/etc...
boss: oh...you can't use that photo
** as coworker is turning around to see **
coworker: yeah it's ALL meat chili
boss: yeah can't have that picture, they have to cook like 50 lbs of meat for the cookoff.
i sat there trying not to laugh and i was thinking and my mouth was starting to open to explain, but my common sense took over.
damn you common sense!!
it was really hard not to laugh. they were so matter of fact about it.
i searched for pictures of chili pots, bowls of chili and a lot of pictures were of chili peppers. that was hard seeing chili's and not being able to use them...
cause well it's all meat chili.
so i ended up with a fat man cartoon guy with the wording...and he looks like he's being roasted since there's fire under his feet.

what i'd like to know is...
is it going to be a giant meatball at the chili cookoff?
what do you do if there's no chili at the chili cookoff?
what seasonings do they use at the chili cookoff if it's not chili's?
i really hope when i was that age (i'm the oldest in the bunch by about 5 years) that i wasn't that naive!
seriously that was the best laugh i've had all week! next time you eat chili i bet you're going to think of this!
they even asked what was on top of the chili bowl that i found...chili peppers and sour cream. they thought that was weird.
is that weird? i didn't think so.
*sigh* kids these days....
as usual i came home for lunch. that was great. sat outside waiting for the rain to come as we ate lunch. had reeses cups for dessert. thomas left his mark on me...chocolate hand print on my jeans. lysol wipes took most of it off. i didn't care, it was a sign of love!
and to TG, thanks for being a great friend all those years ago! so glad you emailed me the other day. you're still the same sweet and funny girl i knew. and we need to figure out a day to get together for catching up!
